Western Sierra Law School (WSLS) is a private law school originally located in San Diego, and now located in Oceanside, California. The law school was founded in 1979 and offers an affordable and accessible option to those looking to study the law, earn a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, and qualify to sit for the Cal. Bar Exam. WSLS offers a part-time evening JD program designed to accomodate working professionals. Our students attend classes two nights per week, three- to four-hours per night, generally beginning at 6:30PM. The first year consists of a comprehensive study of Contracts, Torts, and Criminal Law, after which the student is qualified to sit for the First Year Law Students' Exam (FYLSE) administered by the State Bar of California. Students must pass the FYLSE within three administrations, or otherwise be exempt. While concurrently working to pass the FYLSE, and after passing, students continue their study in years two, three and four, including classes directed to all subjects tested on the Cal. Bar Exam. Classes average approximately ten students to one faculty. The Committee of Bar Examiners (CBE) of the State Bar of California has given degree granting authority to WSLS. Upon completing the JD program at WSLS, the student earns a Juris Doctor degree and will qualify to sit for the Cal. Bar Exam. Upon passing the Cal. Bar Exam, and meeting all requirements of the Cal. Bar, the successful student may become licensed to practice law.
